Pushed Out
Cindy called to say her work situation is going south, after more than twelve years. She is a Senior Vice President who had aspirations of gaining the top position in her department. But nine months ago Bob was hired to the post- ahead of Cindy.
From day one, Bob had it in for her. Cindy is and has been a high performer. She has continued to work long hours doing whatever it took to please Bob. This past week Bob told Cindy in her review that she should be looking for another position.
Cindy is panic stricken. She never did anything wrong. She is a producer. She has years of high performance evaluations. Now Bob is pushing her out. What to do?
My thoughts: Cindy can try and wait Bob out. Or she can start looking elsewhere in the firm or outside. She is more than probably ready for a new challenge. BUT . . .Cindy needs to be careful not to be consumed by Bob’s game. . . to diminish her and make her feel inadequate. She needs to stay focused on her goals. Her next move may wind up inside. . . or outside the organization. I see a bright future if she doesn’t get swallowed up by Bob’s game. What are your thoughts?
